‘Gaze & Graze’ at The Farmhouse

Luxury stargazing at The Farmhouse (Moon Event)

Friday 12th April

The Farmhouse is blessed with beautiful night skies and we are delighted to offer our ‘Gaze & Graze’ evening combining a sumptuous dinner from our barn with an evening with your very own expert astronomer, Richard Darn.

The North York Moors National Park is one of England’s darkest areas and spectacular on clear nights! On a clear night you will see up to 2,000 stars and the majestic Milky Way arching over-head together with star clusters, galaxies and spectacular shooting stars. It’s perfect for just sitting back and enjoying one of Mother Nature’s finest shows.
During this event you will get to study our nearest celestial neighbour in all its glory. The moon will be in the ideal position and phase to view incredible mountains ranges and deep craters. Learn about this alien world which welcomed the first humans aboard Apollo 11 a half century ago. We’ll have telescopes at the ready and encourage you to take a picture using your smartphone (see image above for example) and go on a tour of the spring sky. Plus there’ll be a colourful interactive talk and a chance to handle space rocks over four billion years old!

With clear skies the moon will be shining bright at just over three quarters for this event, and offering you the chance to study and view the beautiful mountain ranges and craters on the moon’s surface through a powerful telescope.

We will provide a wonderfully warming meal, from our party barn, with the comfort of a stove, external fire pits and plenty of blankets. However, the star gazing is done over 2 hours and you will need plenty of layers.
