STAR GAZING AT THE FARMHOUSE
In association with The North York Moor National Park Dark Skies Festival
15th Feb 2019 19:00 – 22:15
The Farmhouse is blessed with beautiful night skies and we are delighted to offer our ‘Gaze & Graze’ evening combining a sumptuous outdoor dinner with an evening with your very own expert astronomer, Richard Darn.
The North York Moors National Park is one of England’s darkest areas and spectacular on clear nights! You will see up to 2,000 stars and the majestic Milky Way arching over-head together with star clusters, galaxies and spectacular shooting stars. It’s perfect for just sitting back and enjoying one of Mother Nature’s finest shows.
With clear skies the moon will be shining bright at just over three quarters for this event, and offering you the chance to study and view the beautiful mountain ranges and craters on the moon’s surface through a powerful telescope.
Wrap up warm and enjoy stunning views.
The star packages are open to both non guests and guests who are staying in one of the estates cottages (min. 2 night stay)
We will provide a wonderfully warming meal, from our party barn, with the comfort of a stove, external fire pits and plenty of blankets. However, the star gazing is done over 2 hours and you will need plenty of layers.
Here’s what’s in store:
- 7pm – 8pm – Alfresco warming stew, with root vegetables and mash followed with a selection of hot steamed puddings & custard! Accompanying glass of wine.
- 8:15pm – 9pm The moon gazing begins……Richard Darn will talk you through the nights sky, navigating the stars and moon with the help of his telescope.
- 9pm – 9:15pm Hot drinks & toddies and toasted marshmallows.
- 9:15pm – 10:15pm A more informal hour to talk with Richard Darn, take stunning imagery on your own smart phone (through the telescope) or simply lie down with blankets and binoculars to enjoy the night sky.
